Our Story

FMI was established in 1995 and was one of the first Financial Services Providers to provide Income Protection for self-employed individuals and commission earners. We understand that self-employed individuals face certain business challenges and have specific cover needs, including needing cover for an immediate loss of income. From the start, our products have been tailored with the needs of these individuals in mind.

Our Business Partners

FMI acts as a Managing General Agent for a number of insurers and we do not hold either a Short Term or Long Term insurance licence. We package insurance benefits into niche market products, and carry out the administration and marketing of these products on behalf of the insurers without carrying the risk of these products. We believe that the combination of a highly focused product provider and the strong backing of our underwriters and re-insurers (Swiss Re and RGA Re-Insurance) provide our clients with an unbeatable risk solution.

In 2009, FMI entered into a partnership with Lombard and in 2010, Lombard acquired a 75% shareholding in FMI. This enables FMI to effectively deliver on our promise of continuous product development and service excellence.

In July 2010, FMI and IFAnet concluded a distribution agreement which has seen FMI’s specialised Income Protection Products being distributed through IFAnet’s extensive broker network. With both companies searching for growth and diversification, a partnership was inevitable.

For the past 11 years, FMI has been chosen to provide ABSA Advisers with a compulsory Income Protection scheme (AIFA) to protect their income in the case of disability. This year, we partnered with ABSA LIFE to offer their clients a specialised Income Protection solution (ABSA LIFE BPE) as part of the ABSA LIFE @ ease product range. We plan to continue to offer the highest level of service and professionalism in all our ABSA-associated projects.
