Industry Interview - Magda Briers

This month, we're doing an Industry interview with a twist. We are pleased to announce that we have a new Claims Manager, Magda Briers. Magda joined FMI on 1 December and comes highly recommended for this position. With a wealth of knowledge and experience in claim management from an occupational perspective, we are sure that Magda will add immense value to our clients' claims experience. Learn more about Magda.

Magda has worked as an Occupational Therapist in clinical work and in private practice. With her main focus on evaluation for medico-legal and insurance purposes, Magda is a great fit for our Claims Department. We asked her a few questions…

  1. How did you end up in the Claims field? As a clinical OT, I enjoyed the functional capacity evaluations and interventions that enable clients to return to work but I also wanted experience and exposure to the corporate / business environment. The claims field is the perfect combination of the two.
  2. Why did you decide to come to FMI? How can you decline an opportunity to work for a company so close to the sea, especially after spending 3 winters in one of the coldest places in SA? On a serious note, as a previously self-employed individual and also married to a business owner, I am very excited about the products FMI is developing and offering to this very unique and challenging market segment and I wanted to contribute to this.
  3. How did you hear about FMI? I am embarrassed to say the first time I heard about FMI was when I noticed the vacancy for Claims Manager being advertised. I immediately visited the FMI website and was extremely impressed!
  4. What about working with FMI are you looking forward to the most? Contributing to the success and growth of the company and becoming part of the FMI ‘family’.
  5. What is the one thing you hope to achieve in your new role? It is very important to me to meet the needs of my clients and I would want to focus on making their experience with FMI a positive, unforgettable one.
  6. What gets you going in the mornings? 2 cups of coffee! Thereafter the excitement of the surprises every day holds.
  7. What’s the best thing that’s happened to you at FMI so far? Even before my first day at FMI, I already felt welcome.
  8. What is one thing about you that might surprise people? I enjoy the challenges of endurance sport and am a keen road runner. I also have a creative side and do a little bit of painting.
